It couldn’t be this time

Unfortunately, although we have tried everything in our power for Oliviero Toscani to be with us today, his conference has been permanently suspended. The flight that should have brought Toscani from Paris was suspended because of the problems being suffered by the air traffic in Europe due to the explosion of a volcano in Iceland. We are convinced that we can count on Oliviero Toscani to attend another edition of our event.

Together, We Can Do it All

Campus Party Europe has received 800 projects from the 27 European Union countries, and the truth is that they are all very interesting. There are projects on social networks, music sites, robotics, software … and behind each one stands a Campusero that has come from his country to show it, share ideas, seek synergies …

The exchange of business cards, emails and Twitters, is constant, and new projects are already emerging as a result of contact between Campuseros.

Marc Rosenfeld, 27 year-old Belgian-Brazilian, realized there was not a complete list of all the Campus Party projects in Madrid. Therefore he created a GoogleDoc with all the information for each project: web address, names of creators and other contact information. Marc put it on his Twitter, other Campuseros re-Twitted, and within hours there were over 80 projects indexed. Add your own.

Marc’s Project is called “4teamus” and it aims to create a community for people from different countries to be able to work on common projects. For example, if you want to create a website and you have a design, you could find programmers to complete the job. So the idea of creating the GoogleDoc for Campus projects, to promote the collaboration between projects, companies and users and is always beneficial for everyone.

ElMur.net: A Wall That Connects

Maria Reig and Gemma Fernandez of ElMur.net stand next to Nicolás Alcalá of Cosmonaut, two of the selected projects in the area of digital creativity at Campus Party Europe.

This is Maria and Gemma’s first Campus, and are delighted. Their project, The Mur, was born in 2007 as a video installation where they projected their own videos on the facade of the Ferrreruela Sanfeliu Foundation, in Lleida, from sunset until midnight. The projector was anchored on a wall and cast on another, hence the name of their project. (Muro means wall in Spanish) The video installation worked very well, and it was time to go further. In June 2009 ElMur.net was born, a website that collects videos from all over the world, and are screened each day on the same wall. Videos recorded by artists, anonymous people … inspiring moments come from very different places: China, New York, Argentina, Chile, Berlin…The videos can also be viewed on the website independently, as well as a a montage sequence that is now 40 minutes in length.

El Mur is also a reference to Lleida. María and Gemma have been surprised more than once by the comments of a local who told them, “What a beautiful piece of yesterday! When will you project it again? “. The projections are usually not repeated but are now more accessible thanks to the Internet. Our friends also participate in advising people who want to send a video and have never made one, recommend a format, and give technical advice. And a wall that one might think serves to separate, is now used to connect, communicate. Mary and Gemma don’t stop, and are now looking for more screens and new spaces in which to project their videos.

El Mur is one of 20 finalists in Creativity area (there are another 20 in Innovation, and another 20 in Science). The competition is very high and the Creativity area winner is El Cosmonauta with an honorary mention awarded to the Dutch project Mijn naam is Haas. The ElMur.net girls did not win but are very happy with the “Campus Party
Experience”
