Maria Reig and Gemma Fernandez of ElMur.net stand next to Nicolás Alcalá of Cosmonaut, two of the selected projects in the area of digital creativity at Campus Party Europe.
This is Maria and Gemma’s first Campus, and are delighted. Their project, The Mur, was born in 2007 as a video installation where they projected their own videos on the facade of the Ferrreruela Sanfeliu Foundation, in Lleida, from sunset until midnight. The projector was anchored on a wall and cast on another, hence the name of their project. (Muro means wall in Spanish) The video installation worked very well, and it was time to go further. In June 2009 ElMur.net was born, a website that collects videos from all over the world, and are screened each day on the same wall. Videos recorded by artists, anonymous people … inspiring moments come from very different places: China, New York, Argentina, Chile, Berlin…The videos can also be viewed on the website independently, as well as a a montage sequence that is now 40 minutes in length.
El Mur is also a reference to Lleida. María and Gemma have been surprised more than once by the comments of a local who told them, “What a beautiful piece of yesterday! When will you project it again? “. The projections are usually not repeated but are now more accessible thanks to the Internet. Our friends also participate in advising people who want to send a video and have never made one, recommend a format, and give technical advice. And a wall that one might think serves to separate, is now used to connect, communicate. Mary and Gemma don’t stop, and are now looking for more screens and new spaces in which to project their videos.
El Mur is one of 20 finalists in Creativity area (there are another 20 in Innovation, and another 20 in Science). The competition is very high and the Creativity area winner is El Cosmonauta with an honorary mention awarded to the Dutch project Mijn naam is Haas. The ElMur.net girls did not win but are very happy with the “Campus Party
Experience”
